See here the programme for our last gourmet break to the Bairrada region in Central Portugal.

Programme of our gourmet break to Bairrada September 2016

Our next short trip leads us to the Bairrada region in Central Portugal. From September 9th to 11th we will stay in the beautiful Palace Hotel da Cúria, visit the natural park of Bussaco, enter the caves of the Aliança Underground Museum und visit the “rebel” of the area’s wine producers, Luis Pato.

We meet on Friday, September 9th, at the end of the afternoon at the marvellous Belle-Epoque Hotel. This evening we will have dinner at the hotel’s splendid dining room and have the opportunity to pair the food with Bussaco wines (white and red, old and new).

On Saturday we head to Mata do Bussaco for a guided visit of the park (“Trilha da àgua”). After lunchbreak in Luso we leave for the “Underground Museum das Caves Aliança”. The guided tour will take place from 2.30 pm until 4 pm. At the end of our visit we will be served snacks and sparkling wine.

At 6 pm is departure for our visit of the wine producing estate of Luis Pato who calls himself the rebel among the wine producers of the area. Here we learn more about grape varieties and procedures of wine producing in Bairrada. Afterwards we will be served a dinner with regional specialities, including the famous „Leitão da Bairrada”. Luis Pato will be present.

On Sunday before your departure we recommend that you visit the old train station of Curia, where you can find lots of information about the Rota da Bairrada and the sparkling wines of this region.
